Touring Trousers

Initial Thoughts

Mirroring the Adventure jacket previously reviewed the Spada Adventure jeans are practical touring trousers that look and feel of a high quality, certainly the addition of a handy zipped pocket on the top of the left thigh and a lined waterproof pocket on the right to store a mobile phone or PDA is a useful feature.

Construction

Created in a heavy duty Nylon fabric the Adventure trousers are made to last and are very much a well built set of motorcycling jeans, they carry on with the theme of the jacket by offering a long ventilation system up the side of each thigh that takes the edge off the heat when the going gets warm. The lower leg has both a long zip and a multi-strip velcro fitting to allow a snug fit around any size boots, also on the inside of the bottom of the trouser is a section of waterproof lining that stops the rain working its way up on those inevitable wet weather journies.

While I raved about the jacket being light and cool in the warm weather these trousers were not as successful, they are not as hot as others I have tried but they also did not cool down as much as I would have liked in the baking heat of France - this may have been down to the riding position of my bike as the heat of the engine is very apparent while wearing textiles. That said when on the move the thigh vents did an ok job of lowering the temperatures down and if they had a vent lower down on the leg I think things would have been a touch more comfortable - the problem here is the trade off you find with most textile suits... In order to remain waterproof in the rain the additional lining on the lower leg becomes like a sauna and does not allow your legs to breathe as much as they need so they start getting damp, please bear in mind this was at 23-25 degree temperature in France with a lot of city riding too where you dont get the opportunity to get air flow through the vents.

The biggest question here is do they work? Well yes I think they do, on the Motorway down to France and a couple of points on the trip I got to test them in the wet and they stayed lovely and dry, my phone was snug and dry in its compartment so I would call that a success, when the going gets hot the trousers do too, not as badly as others on the market but still not as cooling as the jacket. My advice is to buy the suit as it offers exceptional value for money but just hand wash the trousers often.
