Initial Thoughts

I do not know about the rest of you but I tend to wear summer gloves all year round and ride in all weather including when the show is falling, with that in mind it makes sense to try and keep your hands warm and toasty on a ride for both comfort and safety reasons. The Motopro Heated Grips landed on my desk to try and being a heated grip virgin who uses Renthal race grips usually I was keen to see what difference in feel the heated grips would offer, they are much thicker than my standard grips and a bit more plastic feeling so lets see if the heat balances out the size

Construction

As I have mentioned already the Motopro heated grips are thicker than what I am used to, this was to be expected though as they have to incorporate the wiring and heating element and also have to be tough enough to withstand cracking from heating and cooling cycles. After fitting the switch to my bars and battery connected its time to get the grips on, this did take a little while longer than I expected and led to a few choice words being spoken in frustration during the process. Even fitting the most flexible of rubber grip can be a pain sometimes to this stiffer carcass took a bit more encouragement.

Fully connected I went out to give them a run, initially the heat gets into the grip fairly quickly so you would expect them to get to toasty temperatures in no time, what actually happened with this particular set though is the heat was enough to ward off the worst of the bite but the temps did not get as high as I would have liked and it seemed to take forever to get to max heat - perhaps this was just really cold air temperature but they didnt heat my hands as much as I would have liked.

One other irritating thing that I am not really sure is a fault of the grips but more something you have with any brand is the wiring, on my bike the wires got a little bit in the way and coupled with the chunky grip felt a little awkward at times, we have more heated grips on the way so only time and further reviews will tell. Back to the chunky grip, well to be honest they felt a bit plastic even when heated through and when coupled with the size difference between these and my Renthals I didnt feel that I had the same connection to the bike - using a winter glove on Renthal grips would have probably given the same effect.
