This is a comfortable, breathable ultra light weight back protector. Its ergonomically designed so hugs to the contour and curvature of your spine.

Lightweight Back Armour

Initial Thoughts

The first thing which struck me about this back protector is just how lightweight it is, and how it seemed to have been designed with the female form in mind, its moulded shape fitting perfectly the contour of the protector fitted to my spine, it also offers a thin kidney protector and adjustable Velcro strap in the waist band. This back protector fitted easily under my jacket. It didn't catch on anything when riding. My only mistake on first riding with this product was to fasten the Velcro too tightly around my waist, so when I was in riding position the protector naturally rode up slightly making me feel a little uncomfortable, after loosening the Velcro and straps I almost forgot I was wearing it though.

I have not enjoyed wearing other body armour but this was great.

Construction

This back protector is made from a breathable fabric and has a unique honeycomb structure, which rebounds when impacted so it acts both as cushioned padding and an armoured plate.

At 600g it is currently the lightest back protector on the market which meets CE approval level 2 of the new European standard for back protectors: EN1612-2CE, transmitting only 6KN of energy on impact. This is the highest standard currently available. What this means in layman's terms is it's capable of absorbing massive amounts of energy from an impact and it is able to withstand repeated impacts.

The kidney protectors are fully adjustable and removable although they are so light weight I fail to understand why you would need to, the elastic straps have a quick release function and can also be worn criss crossed over your chest if you prefer.

The contour is available in 3 sizes small, large and large+ and there is also a race version which has added coccyx protection which is available in the 2 smaller sizes.

  • Highest performance and ultra light so you forget you are wearing a back protector!

  • CE approved - EN1621 - Level 2

  • Transmits only 6KN of energy.

  • Ultra light weight at only 600g.

  • Engineered and formed in a 5 layer mould that follows the contour of the back.

  • Fully adjustable and removable kidney protectors in soft PU give added performance.

  • Quick release straps that also cross over for increased comfort.

  • Technically advanced spacer fabric for breathability and antibacterial waist straps with Coolmax for comfort.

  • Optional CE approved chest protector can be purchased separately.

Conclusion

This is a cracking back protector especially so for the ladies. Its so light you forget you are wearing it and it gives you the best level of protection money can currently buy.

The only slight downside that I found fit wise is in the way that the protector could ride up your bike in mounted position when done up too tight, perhaps this was down to my fitment but the Aegis protector that was recently reviewed has adjustments for the waist strap position which would also be good here.
