2010 Bikechatter Awards Winners - Equipment

Written by
Bikechatter Best Buy and Recommended Award winners 2010 Bikechatter Best Buy and Recommended Award winners 2010 Bikechatter
All new for this year are the Bikechatter Product Awards, an accolade a given to the finest, coolest or best products we have had the opportunity to review over the past year. Given for a number of reasons one thing is for certain - you won't go far wrong picking one of the winners if you are in the market, we do not care how expensive it is or how much clout the manufacturer has in the industry and award only best products. In this article we cover the Bikechatter Best Buy and Recommended in the equipment categories, Highly Rated items, Innovation and Products of the Year are done separately.

Best Buys: In terms of value for money VS function these are our highest rated

R&G Racing Shocktube Rear Shock Absorber CoverR&G Racing Shocktube

We Said:
A real gem of a product, cheap cheerful and does its job incredibly well. Its not just for road bikes too as this nifty little product has been fitted to IOM race bikes - weight saving compared to a hugger? loads...

Fitting the ShockTube is simple and other than a bit of fiddling about in tight spaces the instructions cover everything needed, it comes with plenty of cable ties to get a secure fit too.

When it comes to value for money there is no real argument, for the sake of a few pounds you get a product that will vastly increase the longevity of your rear shock and save you having unsightly pits and rust - if you already have a bit of wear on your shock it covers nicely and helps tidy up your back end.

R&G Heated Grips

R&G Heated Grips

We Said:
A thin and grippy rubber makes a nice change from the usual thick plasticky units you find and coupled with the decent heat you get through the bars it makes the R&G grips worth a look.

This is especially the case when you consider the price though, at £29.99 they are a steal and seem to be no better or worse quality than their main rivals charging twice (and some nearly triple) the price.

Bikechatter Equipment Recommended Award

This next item has been awarded the Recommended accolade in equipment for generally being a bloody good tyre, the Dunlop Sportsmart performed well above expectations on a California Superbike School day out on track but equally well on wet and dry roads for fast and commuter riding which is a difficult ask from an all rounder.

Dunlop Sportmax Sportsmart Bikechatter RecommendedDunlop Sportmax Sportsmart

We Said: I am looking for an area I can knock points of the Sportsmart and I just cant find one, dry grip was impeccable and wet grip was fantastic when up to temperature.

Overall I am disappointed that I did not get to wear these tyres right down to their limits which for someone who is spoilt for choice of new tyres to review can only mean I really like this particular tyre, my previous Dunlop review was less than satisfactory but I am pleased to report that the Sportsmart is not only a great tyre but a worthy contender for your cash when its new rubber time.
