A lovely comfortable pair of kevlar lined denim ladies riding jeans. A trendy cut and nice fit. Nat gets a set to try and here is what she thought of them

Initial Thoughts

I have always fancied a pair of riding jeans for those short journeys when you want to nip out quickly without spending 15 minutes getting kitted up, or for walking around when you get to where you are going without that uncomfortable feeling of your knees sticking to the inside of you leathers. Naturally I jumped at the chance to do this review and the recent changeable weather gave me a good opportunity to give them a good trial. I found these jeans were both stylish and comfortable to wear, they are a little lower cut than other riding jeans I have seen but this fit actually suits me better anyway due to my size and build (I am petite). The lower cut for me meant they don't dig in when I am riding and as my jacket amply covers the small of my back I am still well protected.

Construction

The pair I reviewed were bootcut and a really nice cut at that, they are pretty long – again this is an issue for me due to my build, and as far as am aware they only come in one leg length. The denim is dark blue and stonewashed so they they look fashionable and wash well without fading. They were as I had hoped great for everyday wear, although lighter than other riding jeans I have seen the jeans are very tough so won't wear down as easily as normal jeans. They were much cooler and more comfortable than leathers on a hot day especially when you are stationary in traffic, yet also kept me warm on the chilly evening ride hom.

I did find them a little tight around my knees when riding pillion due to my positioning but this wouldn't be the same in a riding position. Also whilst on the subject of knees there is no way to fit any extra CE armour into these jeans if you had wanted to. Hornee Jeans have been available in the UK since February this year through UK distributor Feridax, and are already the biggest selling riding jeans in Australia which is where the company are based.

They contain 100% DuPont Military Grade Kevlar which is ultra thin so the jeans are thicker than normal jeans but comfortable from the first wear and light. They are double stitched and have an impact burst strength 5850 KPA (AWTA Hydraulic Diaphragm Method). They also boast extra Kevlar in the “rollover” areas, rear and thigh areas, knee area and hip.

  • 292% tougher Impact Burst Strength than a 16oz Knitted Kevlar
  • 100% Dupont Military Grade Kevlar
  • Impact burst strength 5850 KPA (AWTA Hydraulic Diaphragm Method)
  • Abrasion Tested 60,000 cycles (CSIRO Martindale Method)
  • Ultra thin Kevlar for comfort and less thermal conductivity
  • Heavy duty double stitching

NO OTHER KEVLAR LINED JEAN  OFFERS THIS MUCH PROTECTION

Conclusion

These are great riding jeans, they are comfortable, light and cool. I still feel riding jeans don't offer the same level of protection as textiles as you cant fit them with CE armour which is where they dropped marks, and obviously for safety they are no substitute for leathers which still remain for me the best choice.

I believe they have their place and are a welcome addition to my riding wardrobe, especially when I need to nip out or am going for a drink/in to town etc. They are quite pricey but so are most kevlar jeans
