R&G SuperBike Outdoor Cover - Review
Hot
A well priced universal motorcycle cover from protection specialists R&G should do what it says on the tin, it does not have the heavyweight feel of units we previously tested but as they say - less is usually more so we brave the rain, snow and beating sun to test this cover out in all conditions. The R&G Superbike Outdoor cover is well made and typical of an R&G product and well designed to boot.
Initial Thoughts
After being mildly disappointed by the Oxford Stormex it put paid to the concept that more is better as far as covers are concerned, take a look at the Shocktube which R&G have recently acquired into its range - a beautifully simple solution to a simple problem and because of this it really works. Opening the cover out of its zip bag you notice immediately that it is not as thick, heavy or plush as the Oxford but still retains a decent quality 'feel' to the product, seams are all piped with reflective tape and on the sides you get a large reflective R&G logo, not very discreet but effective nonetheless.
Construction
At first glance you could be forgiven for thinking this is a basic motorcycle cover but the R&G Racing Superbike Cover has been carefully designed to offer a large number of features for what essentially is a mid-range price, loopholes to accept a lock and chain adorn both ends of the cover as well as an elasticated bottom to offer a snug fit and in case of high winds (tested) you can secure the bottom with a pair of clips to stop the cover lifting off or acting like a sail - in my case though the cover stayed on but the fence panel on the left of the bike blew out, went through the handlebars and eventually took the bike over - ouch! My R&G crash bungs saved me from any expensive damage though and as a result I am also able to write up a review on them.
As I have already mentioned there seems to be a lack of a plush liner found in more expensive units, however along the inside top of the cover there is actually a thin, soft layer designed to save your paintwork, this is not particularly bulky or heavy so you dont notice it in operation. Because of the way this cover is constructed you find it is easy to put on and take off and after a heavy rainfall you only get minimal moisture on the bike as you remove it, for me the inside of the R&G Superbike Cover stayed 100% dry in the heavy Autumn rains and as we have just had a ton of snow I am happy to report the cover protects amply well in even colder conditions and with nearly 2 feet of snow on the bike at one stage it got a real testing. Before all the cold and wet came we had a month known here as summer, I say known here because despite claims it would remain hot and dry throughout we actually got average temperatures and lots of cloud as usual, in any case though on those really blisteringly hot days I found the cover managed to keep out the dust as well as it could.
The only downside I can find to the R&G Racing Cover is that you cannot put it on a hot bike and have to cool the engine for around 10 minutes, usually this is not so much of a problem but on the odd occasion where you get back from a ride and its throwing down I am sure you dont want to get off the bike, let it get wet - THEN cover it later, it is only a really small niggle though as in reality I tend to take a few minutes closing gates behind me and removing items of clothing before I get to covering her up.
Finally, this is a universal sized cover that will fit most sport, sport touring, naked models etc, it is generous enough to cover the majority of dirt bikes and supermoto's too so it is not just for superbikes as its name might suggest.

Conclusion
Cant really fault this cover, it stayed dry in all conditions and managed to not drag and smear groundwater up the bike when removing it.
It is really light and manageable which I think is where this trumps the competition, without needing the layers of padding and lining the R&G cover offers good quality at a reasonable price.
Bikechatter recommended!
