Conclusion

I am looking for an area I can knock points of the Sportsmart and I just cant find one, dry grip was impeccable and wet grip was fantastic when up to temperature.

Overall I am disappointed that I did not get to wear these tyres right down to their limits which for someone who is spoilt for choice of new tyres to review can only mean I really like this particular tyre, my previous Dunlop review was less than satisfactory but I am pleased to report that the Sportsmart is not only a great tyre but a worthy contender for your cash when its new rubber time.

You are lucky.I did 1 track day with mine, after switching from D208's.Assured by Dunlop themselfs that the new 180hp BMW would deliver 5000 Miles+!!! I payed the extra £100 a set and tried.Great run in time, fantastic grip, but after mainly dry road riding on the road,One half wet half dry trackday at Mallory park,my tyres are bordering on slicks after 1600 Miles. You had another 100 miles on the clock, and more to come.I am only a Novice Trackdayer, only done2,but feel I should go up a group next time, and am a thrasher,but... Told I'd get 5000 miles, got 1600,only 100 miles more than my last D208(I am talkin rear only, fronts last ages) and following Dunlops tyre pressure advise,I feel cheated.Incidentally, they suggested for me,32 PSI both ends for track, and 36 front,42 rear on the back on the road, and I must say, that 42psi rear made the wheel feel like it was made out of wood,to the extent of being dangerous,it turned the 1998 R1 back to being as dangerous as it was before I fitted the steering dampner.Maybe O.K. for slow riders, but I feel 36 front and back is much safer.
