Scottoiler's V-System is a world renowned, simple and effective chain oiling leaving you to enjoy the ride while it gets on with keeping things lubed when required
Lube me up Scotty!
Initial Thoughts
Scottoiler? Does it really work and will it save me enough time to warrant spending my hard earned cash, these are the first questions in my head when it comes to this chalk and cheese product, some people swear they would never use one and others swear by them - I took delivery of the Scottoiler V-System to review and find out. Opening the box it looked like something that would take forever to fit and get right but on reading the instructions included it was apparent that Scottoiler had thought of and included everything you need regardless of your bike model, they even supply different colour cable ties to suit the various mounting locations which is great for those of us who are fussy or particular.
Before long I have got all the bits together needed to fit this funky little gizmo to my freshly restored CB750 so lets get cracking!
Construction
Instructions for pretty much all motorcycle models are available which show in detail where items are recommended to be fitted, this can an will save a lot of time scratching your head to locate each component. Shortly after browsing the instructions I have decided which mounting point to take and I get started, actual fitting takes around an hour with medium level competancy so no real chore, all that is really left is to connect both ends and position the delivery tube which is connected to the carbs as described in the instructional sheet - follow this and you are done! Once the Scottoiler is fitted the RMV requires filling which again is well thought out, simple and most importantly clean, the blue oil supplied looks rather swanky too rather than looking just like a pot of oil.
Priming is the next step, start the bike up and have a look at the diaphragm in the RMV jump around (cool to watch) the oil makes its way to the delivery tube, once it is on its way through you need to tweak the settings to get the oil flow right for your motorcycle and environment, I have since done several hundred miles with the V-System fitted and I am seriously struggling to find any bad points to report, initially it did take a while to tweak and fine tune so in the meantime I did suffer a little bit of fling on the rear wheel, once you have the oiler setup as you like though it settles in quite nicely and does its job silently and without drama.
Official Blurb:
The Scottoiler vSystem is the latest edition of the market-leading range of vacuum-operated Scottoiler chain lubrication systems. The kit gives a range of approximately 400 - 800 miles between refills of the RMV (Reservoir Metering Valve), depending on the flow setting. The kit has a range of fittings suitable for most bikes, (non standard adapters are available FOC from Scottoiler), and includes a 250ml bottle of Scottoil, which should be enough for approximately 2500 miles of lubrication.

Conclusion
Ok, first questions out of the way - is it worth it? Well I surprised myself by answering a resounding yes! In terms of time saved messing around manually oiling it offers decent value for money and I now have more time to ride my bike.
Initially I followed the advice on the instruction and cleaned my chain prior to fitting and I can now wash my bike down normally with no fling on the wheel but also no gunk build up on the visible part of the chain - just oil where you need it, in the centre. I am converted and find that extra half hour saved in the garage very nice indeed.

ScottOiler
Truth be told, I have not been riding for about three years. However, several years ago I rode a 1994 Suzi 600 Katana. Went to one of the bike shows here in Seattle one year and saw this product. Up to that point I had been using messy PJ-12 chain lube. Bought the ScottOiler and over the winter, installed it on my Suzi. Instructions were straightforward and easy to accomplish. Set it up a nice drip which was sufficient for lube but miserly in its oil consumption. I really liked that product. Now, I'm planning on getting another motorcycle soon... after our daughter is married off!... and when I buy the bike, one of the first things I will do is get another ScottOiler. No muss, no fuss. Surprised, though, that the sales person I talked to today at Honda had not heard of ScottOiler. Advertising needs to improve, I suppose. Anyway, I'll be a repeat customer.. even if it is a 30% increase in the cost since I last purchased it.
