For decades now the sports motorcycle brand from Austria has been engaged in racing series all over the world and by its strong conviction and visible enthusiasm for motorsport has created for itself a unique sporting image. This KTM company philosophy is, without exception, reflected in the series models it produces.

KTM have burst onto the superbike scene with a bike that looks straight out of the concept shop, incredibly aggressive and angular but poised and clearly a weapon at your disposal. Powered by an 1148cc V-Twin engine the RC8 not only looks incredible but has the soundtrack to match.

KTM-supported rider Cyril Despres sealed victory in the 2010 Dakar Rally after more than 9000 km across Argentina and Chile. He rode triumphantly into Buenos Aires to complete his third Dakar victory and the ninth consecutive victory for KTM, the Austrian-made sports motorcycles. With this ninth consecutive success KTM remains unbeaten in the most important Rally race since 2001.
“Back on track” is the best way to describe the current situation of the KTM Group. After the most difficult financial year in the company’s history (2008/2009) KTM has returned to the profit zone following immediate and successful restructuring measures. A turnover of €110.7 million has resulted in a clear profit of €3.6 million for the first quarter of the current financial year.

The performance all-rounder comes fitted with luggage in 2012 KTM has fitted as standard its PowerParts Side Bags as part of changes to the 2012 990 SM T. The popular long-distance Supermoto combines sports components and capability with endurance, comfort and suitability for everyday use and now offers increased levels of practicality by being supplied with official KTM twin panniers. Specifically developed for the SM T, the PowerPart Side Bags mount easily and quickly to the bikes existing luggage rack and are designed to not disrupt the lines and the colour of the Austrian bike.

KTM will produce a limited edition track version of its new 690 Duke, based on the machines competing in the 2012 KTMsponsored European Junior Cup (EJC). Following on from the success of the RC8 R Track, the 200 examples are to have the same specification as the EJC bikes that will see riders from more than 13 Nations battle across eight rounds as a support race for the World Superbike Championship.

The 2012 KTM 690 Duke has arrived in the UK with 24 demo bikes available at dealers across the length and breadth of the UK. Eighteen years since KTM launched the original Duke, the 2012 model is the most technically advanced road bike from the Austrian factory. Boasting the most powerful production single cylinder engine, the new bike also features 90% different parts over its predecessor. Despite being more cost effective to own with better fuel economy and service intervals increased by 40%, the Duke now also includes ABS as standard and costs less than the outgoing model by £350.

Racers and spectators at Irish Road Race meetings will have rapid response medical support in the form of a 175hp KTM RC8 R as part of its “Travelling Doctor’” system in 2012. Doctor John Hinds, 32, as a member of the Motorcycle Union of Ireland (MCUI) medical team, has chosen a RC8 R - currently available for £12,995 with finance offers that include 0% interest with a £99 deposit - as his way of getting life saving care and triage to a rider quickly and safely. You may remember seeing our feature on Zero One RaceFX in 2011 that highlighted John's bike and their awesome design work.
