Avon Tyres will release a successor to the phenomenally popular Storm ST family of sports-touring tyres at this year’s International Motorcycle and Scooter show which takes place at Birmingham’s National Exhibition Centre, later this week. Avon Tyres will be utilising ‘eco-friendly’ or ‘clean oil’ in its tyres from 2010 which, as well as being better for the environment, will increase the grip of some tyres in the range as a result. From January 2010, all new motorcycle tyres sold in the UK have to be made with clean, eco-friendly oil, which features low PAH (Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons).
Avon’s VP2 sports tyre family has been selected by Castle Combe’s team of experienced motorcycle instructors for use on track days. British-based tyre specialist, Avon Tyres, has the VP2 range in a wide variety of fitments, specifically designed for today’s sports bikes and trackday machines. They come in three versions: VP2 Xtreme for trackday use, VP2 Supersport for road and track use and VP2 Sport for road use.
Avon rubber is once again the tyre of choice for Isle of Man sidecar legend, Dave Molyneux. Last year, Molyneux took his victory tally on the Island to 14, thanks in part to the Avon Tyres on his outfit. This year, it is all changed as Molyneux has a new passenger – Patrick Farrance – and now has Kawasaki power for the coming road-race season. The Manxman said, “After the result last year, I had to use Avons again!
As part of Avon Tyres 100th anniversary of motorcycle tyre manufacture a special one-off showbike has been on display around the UK during 2011. To round off the year the bike will be on the Speedycom Performance Ltd stand (R605, Hall 3a) at Motorcycle Live at the NEC 19-27 November. The Yamaha YZF-R6 has been treated to a list of mouth-watering aftermarket parts, which include: EK chain and sprocket kit, MIVV exhaust, Pazzo levers, HEL brake lines, R&G Racing tail tidy, flush-fit diamond indicators and integrated rear indicators, BONAMICI rear set footpegs, double-bubble screen, carbon fibre rear hugger, front fender and Techspec Gripster Tank Pads.

Avon Tyres have been used on a specially-built motorcycle which celebrates a very special motorcycling decade. The ‘S2’ is one of a number of gorgeous machines, built by the ‘Spirit of the Seventies’ team to take advantage of modern motorcycle parts and the latest rubber from Avon Tyres, while celebrating this glorious era in motorcycling. The team behind this amazing series of motorcycles are friends and fellow bike enthusiasts Tim Rogers and Kevin Taggart. They formed ‘Spirit of the Seventies,’ a retro-custom motorcycle company specialising in transforming and overhauling bikes from that decade into stylish, bespoke machines.

Avon Tyres will be celebrating throughout 2011, a year which marks its Centenary of producing motorcycle tyres. Today, Avon Tyres is the only UK-based manufacturer of road-going motorcycle tyres. The actual history of Avon Tyres goes back to 1885, when a former cloth mill in Melksham, Wiltshire, was turned into a rubber goods factory. By the turn of the century the company was looking at diversifying into other rubber products and by 1911 Avon produced their first motorcycle tyre.
Avon Tyres will be in attendance at a unique Castle Combe race event held on September 3rd to honour the Wiltshire track’s 60th anniversary. The circuit was originally opened in the summer of 1950, making it one of the oldest and established circuits in the UK. It held its first dedicated motorcycle race in 1951 and to honour this 60th anniversary the circuit will be hosting a very special race meeting – the Fowlers Pro-Bike National. This 60th anniversary coincides with Avon Tyres’ own 100th anniversary of manufacturing motorcycle tyres.
Avon Tyres has been named as the sole tyre supplier to the 2011 Eastern Airways British F1 Sidecar championship.* The series consists of eight rounds, which will be played out between the Easter Bank Holiday weekend and October 1. Four of the eight races will be alongside the premier two-wheeled series – the MCE Insurance-backed British Superbike Championship – and will be shown live on Eurosport and ITV 4. There will also be an hour-long highlights show of all eight rounds during a prime-time slot on Eurosport, with repeat shows in case you miss the action.**

Avon Tyres is offering customers £30 or 30 off a track day of their choice from circuits as diverse and exciting as Brands Hatch, Oulton Park, Snetterton and Kirkistown. For track day addicts, the new 3D Ultra tyres from Avon are perfect. Launched in three distinct versions, purchasers of Supersport or Xtreme 3D Ultras from UK Avon retail stockists between 30 April and 16 July will qualify for £30 or 30 off their next track day when booked through participating operators.
