News has just hit my desk of the incredibly sexy looking new gloves by British clothing and armour firm, Knox. The Knox Gloves range is to be unveiled at the 2009 NEC Bike Show in November and December. Initially four models of Knox Hand Armour will be available; the full track specification HANDROID, sports-rider orientated BIOMECH, classically-styled RECON and waterproof ZERO.

After getting my grubby mitts on the new Knox gloves range I must say I am impressed! I must confess I was very much looking forward to seeing how they feel while wearing as photos can only tell you part of the story, one question I had was regarding the exo-skeleton on the Handroid in relation to an actual crash - are they fixed and prone to snagging?

Knox, the British impact protection specialists have a reputation for innovation dating back to the early 1980's, when they pioneered back protectors and body armour. Knox was the first brand to bring CE-approved limb and back protectors to market, the first to produce a roll-up back protector and in fact Knox has consistently displayed an energy and enthusiasm for creative ways to make motorcycling safer and more enjoyable. Knox are now proud to launch the revolutionary KINESIS impact protectors, the ultimate incarnation of its OEM range of armour.

The face, head and chest are more sensitive to changes in temperature than the rest of the body*, and as any motorcyclist and scooter rider will know, keeping those areas properly insulated and protected from the cold and damp can be difficult. Part of the Softshell mid-layer collection, Cold Killers' Hot Hood, Maxi Tube and Mini Tube are specifically designed to help keep the face, head, neck and chest area warm and dry, during even the most miserable winter weather conditions.

British impact protection specialists Planet-Knox have had their innovative Scaphoid Protection System recognised and protected with the granting of a patent (EPO 1594378). Knox SPS is unique, in that it combines a protective pad on the scaphoid with a second protective pad over lower metacarpals, and it is this technology that is covered by the patent. This is the secret to the success of the system - there must be two pads so that the hand slides when it hits the ground, eliminating the grab effect of leather during an accident.

Forma, manufacturers of CE-approved motorcycle footwear and suppliers to current British Superbike Championship challenger James Ellison, are renowned for the superb protection afforded by their sports boots.

Engineering

Cold Killers have re-engineered their entire collection of Men’s and Women’s windproof base layer clothing for an even better fit.  With a well-established reputation for comfort, the changes for winter 2009/10 are subtle, such as lengthening the body and increasing the neck circumference on sports tops, designed to further enhance the snug fit experienced thanks to the use of Softshell fabric with exclusive active stretch.

British safety experts Knox have given their Warrior impact protection harness a bright future with the introduction of two exciting new colour options for 2010. Premiered at the Dirt Bike Show, the updated Warrior is one of the few off-road impact protectors to be fully tested and approved to the relevant CE standards for motorcycle use.

Knox has given its Dry Inside base layer a fresh new look for 2010. Designed to keep the wearer dry and comfortable throughout the seasons, this technical collection of base layers combines the natural comfort of cotton with the wicking properties of synthetic fabrics. Made from 95% cotton (and 5% lycra for a comfortable fit), Dry Inside is unlike normal cotton base layers because it wicks moisture away, leaving the wearer feeling dry and fresh.

Knox Hand Armour completely redefined the way we think about motorcycle gloves when it was launched in 2009. Now Knox will be the first manufacturer to produce a waterproof glove using innovative OutDry® technology. Hand Armour for winter use, the Zero offers reliable waterproofing and temperature control alongside patented scaphoid protection and BOA fastening. Traditionally motorcycle gloves are made waterproof by inserting a membrane between the outer shell and inner lining (below right).
