Road racing record goes to Farquhar

Q8Oils supported Ryan Farquhar, who took three more road race wins at Killalane on Sunday,  bringing his tally of Irish National road race wins to 121 breaking the all-time Irish record of 119 set by the legendary Joey Dunlop.

Winning the Supertwins by a massive 20-second margin, Ryan maintained his 100% Championship record in the class.  However the following Open race was a much closer contest, with Ryan eventually crossing the line 3 seconds ahead of Michael Dunlop, (Joey’s nephew), having set the fastest lap of the race at 111.770mph.  Ryan duelled with Dunlop again in the 600cc Championship race, this time beating the younger rider by just half a second for his third win of the day.

However, the Grand Final race very nearly ended in disaster, when Ryan ran wide at one of the corners on the fourth lap and, unable to avoid him, Dunlop ran in to the back of his Kawasaki.  Ryan explains the rest; “The rear hugger jammed into the rear wheel and locked it up, snapping it sideways, when in fourth gear. It would have been a major incident but fortunately I managed to bring the bike under control and thanks to the help of a couple of marshals, I was able to get going again."

Speaking at the end of the day, a delighted and emotional, Ryan said: "It's been a really good weekend and to be standing here now with the all-time record of 121 wins is something special - if anyone had told me that when I started racing I would have laughed at them!” Farquhar's hat-trick increases his wins this season to a staggering 60 and he has one more chance to increase this further at the International Gold Cup races at Oliver's Mount, Scarborough on September 19th-20th.
