Donington Park is delighted to confirm that for the second year running it will host the European round of the FIM Superbike World Championship, scheduled to take place between the 11th and 13th May 2012. Following the return of World Superbike to Donington earlier this year, after a period of uncertainty for the Leicestershire venue, the commitment from World SBK promoter Infront Motor Sports, truly signifies Donington's return to world championship event status.
Gemma Toogood, marketing manager for Donington Park, explained, "World Superbike really signified that we as a circuit were back on the International map earlier this year, and while it was early days for us, we enjoyed a successful round here with great racing. To have Infront Motor Sports’ commitment for 2012 this early is great news and with the developments planned for the circuit over the winter months and a later slot in the calendar too, this is sure to be a great event for us, the teams and most importantly, the spectators."
Paolo Ciabatti, SBK General Manager, added: “We are delighted to be able to confirm Donington Park’s place in the 2012 calendar, and the new later date will undoubtedly help to make the European Round even more appealing for spectators. Donington Park has a special place in World Superbike history as the first round was held there in 1988 and we are sure that it will continue to be an attractive event for the many British fans of our championship.”
During 2011 Donington Park has welcomed many high profile race championships. As well as World Superbike, Donington has hosted the World Touring Car Championship, British Superbike Championship, the British Truck Grand Prix, British Touring Cars plus many other high profile events.
