Modern tyres also help bring a machine from the 1970s right up to date, so Avon’s tyres fit the bill, by being both thoroughly modern, but also being the leading tyres from that era. Rogers says: “Avon is a great British brand that we trust, offering great performance and value. The Roadriders are attractive to us because they offer modern sportsbike levels of grip and feel, as well as being available in sizes that are otherwise overlooked. There's another reason that we chose them, aesthetics are hugely important to us and they look great.”
So far, a number of models have been created at Spirit’s HQ at Fairseat, near Brands Hatch in Kent: the S1 – a 1976 Z750 Twin Streetscrambler, the S2 – a 1979 Yamaha XS750/850 triple café racer and the S3 – a 1978 Yamaha XS650 Street-tracker. Other projects include a Kawasaki Z1000, Yamaha SR400 singles and XS750s and a Suzuki GS750. Prices start at just £6250.
The S2 sits on Avon Roadriders and this beautiful machine can currently be seen as part of a window display in Gresham Blake, the bespoke tailors in Brighton. The style of the bike – and tyres – fits well with the clientele which includes Steve Coogan, Chris Evans and Christian Slater.
Avon Tyres is a Cooper Tire & Rubber Company brand and this year they celebrate their 100th Anniversary of producing motorcycle tyres. Avon is now the sole remaining manufacturer of road tyres in the UK. The 2011 range covers every category of motorcycles from adventure sport to power cruisers and sports bikes to classics.
