Donington Park revise calendar due to noise restrictions

Donington Park has announced a change to its 2011 Calendar of Major Events due to noise restrictions in place at the Leicestershire venue. The decision to reduce the number of race days – which comes following careful consideration from the Board of Donington Park Racing Ltd – means that the calendar will now focus on prestigious racing events such as World Touring Cars and the British Superbike Championship. The WTCC and BSB rounds will go ahead as planned in July and September, with Superstars International, Aston Martin Owners Club event and the FT International Series and British GT Championship also remaining in the schedule.
The reduction in the number of events at the circuit will also allow the Donington Park team to move forward with the planned improvement works ahead of the 2012 season sooner than expected. “We were so keen to get Donington Park back up and running that we initially over-subscribed to racing events in relation to the noise restrictions in place,” explains chairman Kevin Wheatcroft. “Although it’s a tough decision to reduce the calendar, we know it is right for the venue. We still have some very exciting events to look forward to and we can press ahead with the improvements at the park ahead of what is set to be another exciting year in 2012”.
