We wanted everyone to have a fun and enjoyable day, but at the same time get a very serious safety message across to bikers, and I believe we did just that. "The entertainment was fantastic, and my thanks go out to everyone involved. I really hope we can make this an annual event." The Air Ambulance was operational from the event all day, giving people the unique opportunity of seeing the life-saving helicopter up close and a chance to meet the air crew. Also featured in the video is a visitor to the event; Michael from Ware, who can be seen wearing a full neck and back brace three months after coming off his motorcycle on the Lower Luton Road. He has no memory of the collision but explains why he thinks he came off his bike, despite being an advanced and very experienced rider.
Keith Emsall, Executive Member for Community Safety and Culture, said: "Motorcyclists represent two per cent of road traffic in Hertfordshire but 20 per cent of the total numbers killed or seriously injured on the county's roads. There are many motorcycle enthusiasts in the fire service, but through their work they can also be called out to the scene following a collision. Because of this, biker safety is a subject very close their hearts and this event is a great way to get in touch with motorcyclists from all over Hertfordshire to help spread important safety messages. "This video helps to reinforce those messages and the importance of simple things like wearing correct safety gear; simple measures that could mean the difference between surviving a collision or not."
