NW200 a winning weekend for Dunlop

Written by
John Mcguinness enjoyed another successful weekend John Mcguinness enjoyed another successful weekend Dunlop
As the International NorthWest200 came to a close on Saturday 15th May, Dunlop tyres walked away smiling, with the first place podium finishes in the Superbike, Superstock and Supersport races with McGuinness, Amor and Hutchinson taking the wins. Dunlop riders occupied 11 out of 18 podium places.
As Ireland’s largest outdoor sporting event, the International NorthWest200 circuit runs between the towns of Portrush, Portstewart and Coleraine providing an 8.9 mile high speed road course. There were over 60 riders in total speeding past the chequered flag on Dunlop’s. The Birmingham based tyre manufacturer adds these top three race wins to their successful performance at the Isle of Man TT in 2009 where they achieved five out of five race wins.

At the NorthWest200, Keith Amor put in a stunning display of riding on Saturday and capped it off with his first ever International road race win. Amor took his win in the five lap Superstock race which he clinched on the final lap putting his Dunlop tyres to the test reaching 118mph best lap time, completing the race in 22:46.565 minutes.

John McGuinness enjoyed another highly successful day of racing on his Dunlop’s taking his fifth win in the famous NorthWest200 race. Riding HM Plant and Padgetts Honda's once again, John took a superb victory reaching over 120mph in the opening Superbike race to get his day underway in perfect style.

Also riding on tyres made in Birmingham by Dunlop, Ian Hutchinson dominated in the second Supersport race of the day. His Padgetts Honda finished the course in 18:29.915 minutes, 3.288 seconds ahead of his competition. Pat Walsh from Dunlop Motorsport said: “We were very happy with the tyre performance at the NorthWest200. A special mention must go to the factory for providing us with top quality product.

With motorcycles reaching speeds in excess of 200mph at this event, it is crucial that the tyres are flawless. In 2009 we really dominated the road race scene and hope to do the same this year. This impressive start puts us in a good position for the Isle of Man TT which starts in two weeks time.”
