My care package this time consisted of a few items from Weise and the first out of the box was their Tristar Jean, actually it is more of a combat trouser and with its mixture of stylish grey panels and well placed front pockets it is certainly a good looking motorcycle trouser. There are a load of nice little touches with things like the external armour pockets so you can easily remove the knee pads while off the bike - they pass quite well for going out clobber as I found out.

Trendy Trouser

Initial Thoughts

Ok so the first thing to do here is try them on and see what the fit is like, as you will no doubt be aware every manufacturer is slightly different with sizing and cut and as you get into larger or smaller sizes from average it can be a gamble - I am happy to report that the Weise Tristar trousers were no such gamble and fitted amazingly well with all armour in the right position as well as being incredibly comfortable. Armour wise it sports Knox throughout as I have now found seems to be the norm for Weise clothing, with both an Isotex remoable waterproof drop lining and a quilted liner you are set for all conditions.

I can confirm that in medium rain showers the Tristar jeans hold their own without the Isotex liner quite nicely but they can get a touch breezy when the temperature drops - no bad thing though for general wear as they remain both light and comfortable and are one of the only sets of textile trousers I feel comfortable spending 12 hours milling around in both on and off the bike. fastenings on the Tristar consist of YKK zip and velcro and both the waist and leg zips are storm flapped to further aid waterproofness, they are simple and work well throughout though the velcro on what would be the fly did not feel particularly hard wearing - not really an issue as there is a pop stud in place as well.

Construction

A previously mentioned the Isotex layer is detachable but is really useful when the water starts falling which of course is inevitable in the UK, Isotex is a waterproof, windproof and breathable fabric that features in a number of the Weise lines and is actually seems to work quite well, the overall construction consists of a 600 denier strong nylon that is just about the right thickness for a set of motorcycle trousers that you would wear casually off the bike,  the waist band is adjustable via a pair of velcro straps that connect to an elasticated back and the Tristar also sports a short connecting zip that will connect not only to Weise models but also a number of other brands.

I had the opportunity to test the Tristar in a number of conditions from nice and warm (and dry) to rainy and cold conditions and they performed pretty well overall, the only thing I had hoped for was a little more reassurance on the waterproofness of the leg pockets for my phone, that said though I have not had a wet phone so maybe it is just me? The side slant pockets would perhaps have been a better choice but I always prefer my phone inside my jacket or in a thigh pocket so i can feel when it rings.

The Weise Tristar textile trousers also feature a well thought out set of stretch panels on the outside leg and also on the backside that gives the Tristar a much more elastic fit to a standard 'rigid' cordura, this may have contributed to the comfort levels while wearing them but one thing is for sure - they really were comfortable.

  • 600 Denier strong nylon construction
  • Detachable ISOTEX® waterproof, windproof and breathable drop lining
  • Detachable 120 gram thermal quilted lining
  • CE approved armour at knees with pockets for hip armour (available separately)
  • Adjustable Velcro® retained twin belt system at waist
  • YKK® zippers

Conclusion

Immensely comfortable the Climate jeans do not feel as thick as some other models but this is the trade off you will find between usability and durability.

The climate does not feature any form of ventilation in the form of zippers but remains light and airy regardless, what you do get is a waterproof set of motorcycling jeans that will cope with medium showers even without the removable membrane and heavy rain with it included.

External armour pockets won my opinion though as they are such a nice looking set of jeans nipping off to meet some friends in them did not require a change of clothes to go out in.

arc-on Evolution Leather Suit and Gloves

Over at arc-on the previous seasons suits have seen a redesign and launch in the form of the Evolution suit, available in one or two piece formats, and the new Evolution glove to match. Previous years experience in racing have given them a decent spec sheet to sing from, even if you name is not one that you have seen before, considering that a load.
